Q?

How far in advance should I order my dress?

A.

We recommend 9-12 months in advance of your big day, to leave plenty of time for your dress to arrive and for any required alterations. However, if you are anticipating a longer engagement, there is no reason why you can’t start browsing for your wedding dress now, and if you are a bride in a hurry we have lots of dresses in stock or can special order for you.

Q?

Do I need to make an appointment?

A.

We advise an appointment to ensure we can offer you the exceptional service we are renowned for and to allow you a dedicated personal consultant throughout. Of course if you turn up without an appointment and we have a bridal consultant and changing room free we would love to show you around and discuss your wedding day requirements, but if we are all busy we can arrange with you to return another day.

Q?

Who and what shall I bring to my appointment?

A.

We recommend you bring no more than four people and suggest you bring the people whose opinion you trust most. Most importantly, bring ideas. Any thoughts or inspirations you have had about your dream day and dress will help our team find you the perfect bridal gown, and don’t be surprised if you find ‘the dress’ on your first visit but don’t worry if you don’t! An open mind to the whole experience could see you surprise yourself with your choice, and you don’t know until you try.

Q?

How do I order and pay for my dress?

A.

Congratulations, you have found your dream dress. What’s next? Your bridal consultant will measure you and then run through your terms and conditions. We would then require 50% deposit when placing the order and the final 50% is due on the gown’s arrival. If it is a sale dress or off the peg we would require immediate full payment.

Q?

Is my wedding dress deposit safe?

A.

Fleur de Lys Bridal is accredited by the Retail Bridal Association, meaning you and your dress are in the safest hands possible. Read more about the RBA accreditation benefits here.

Q?

How long will it take for my dress to arrive?

A.

Delivery varies depending on manufacturer but typically it takes 16 -20 weeks so an early visit is highly recommended. However many of our designers offer a rush cut service and on occasions we will sell our samples off the peg so please don’t panic if your wedding is sooner than the time quoted.

Q?

How will I know when my dress has arrived?

A.

The manufacturer will only ever give us an estimated delivery date, so once we have confirmation of the order, we can give you a rough idea of expected delivery. Once your dress has arrived at Fleur de Lys Bridal we will check it over and then notify you by phone or email, whichever you prefer. We will then book your first fitting, where you will not only try your dress on but will also have the opportunity to try different accessories whilst you are in your dress, if you haven’t already done this when you ordered it.

Q?

How many fittings will I need in total?

A.

Usually, brides require 2-3 fittings to ensure the perfect look, but if more are needed, that is no problem – the Fleur de Lys team are here to help for as long as you need us.

Q?

What shoes will best suit me and my wedding dress?

A.

You want to look perfect, but also feel comfortable so you can enjoy the most memorable day of your life. Deciding on the ideal wedding shoes can be difficult, so here are a few simple steps to make your decision easier:

  • Decide on the fabric of your shoe – raw silk, crepe, or satin shoes are common choices because they often match the fabric of the dress, however, diverting from the norm can add a unique touch to your overall ensemble.
  • Select a wedding shoe colour to complement the gown – it isn’t unusual for brides to have to dye their wedding shoes to make sure the colours are accurate.
  • Choose a comfortable bridal dress shoe – heels should only be an option if you are used to wearing them, and if you are not, but really want to wear them, buy them well in advance to break them in and get used to the style – you want to be comfortable on your big day!
  • Match the style of your shoe to your dress and occasion – take into account the formality of your wedding, style of your dress and the season when choosing.
  • Make sure your wedding shoes will be appropriate for your ceremony and reception – consider the whole day before making any final decisions.Your Fleur de Lys Bridal team will answer any questions to help you choose the perfect bridal shoes for your perfect day.

Q?

Have veils become outdated?

A.

Definitely not. Tradition remains the focus for many brides, and many may want to incorporate the look or feel of past weddings. Not only for the bride, but tradition is still rife for the father-of-the-bride and groom too, lifting the veil when giving their daughter away or when the groom kisses the bride. Many brides feel veils complete the bridal look and are the final piece of the puzzle; you can find your dream veil in our online and in-store range of bridal accessories.

Q?

Can I change my mind or cancel a dress once it’s ordered?

A.

Once a dress is on order we can’t change or cancel your order. As the dress is being made especially for you the balance of your dress will remain outstanding and be due when the dress arrives.

Q?

What if my dress needs altering?

A.

Although our seamstresses work independently, we have worked alongside them for many years and they are all incredibly skilled and fantastic at what they do. We can arrange your initial seamstress appointment for you and it can be at Fleur de Lys, future follow up appointments will be done between yourself and the seamstress.

Q?

Where can I store my dress?

A.

We offer our brides several options; you can take your bridal gown away in a ‘Fleur de Lys’ bridal storage bag, or, for a fee which includes insurance, we can store your dress until nearer the wedding day –and we will steam the dress just before collection. We also offer a service of personally dressing the bride from your home or venue on your special day.

Q?

What does your Platinum Promise offer me as a bride?

A.

Quite simply it guarantees our service to you, throughout your search and purchase of your wedding gown. Firstly, you are entitled to your very own 90 minute, VIP appointment; discussing everything from your ideal design to the decor of your wedding reception. Secondly, we offer our honest opinion on every gown you try, based on its design, colour shade, even your budget. Our promise means we only sell brand new dresses, designed and made by world renowned designers. Last, but by no means least, our price match – if you find your wedding dress elsewhere at a lower price, we will match it without compromising the quality of our service; we are the only wedding shop in Essex, and other counties, to do so.

Q?

What if my wedding is abroad?

A.

Consider the weather of your location when deciding upon your wedding gown, simply for your own comfort. For example, if your special day is in a warmer climate, a lighter fabric would be more suited, and this is something that will be discussed in your VIP appointment so that we can refine your search – we even have a destination wedding section! If your wedding is overseas, we can present your dress in a box or case to ensure it travels safely and securely and arrives looking perfect.

Q?

How do I know what colour dress will best suit my skin complexion?

A.

Every bride wants to look their very best on their wedding day, and finding the right dress, in the right colour for you, is essential to achieving this. We all have different skin tones and even a nuance in the shade of your dress can make a huge difference. Luckily, our team of bridal experts are there to help – here are a few tips:Fair Skin Steer clear of the traditional bright white wedding dresses as they may wash you out – not ideal for your photographs! Try a yellow-tones ivory gown and you’ll stand out for all the right reasons.Medium Shades If you tan easily, look for a wedding dress with a creamier undertone.Medium with pink undertones Medium pale skin with pink undertones will work best with creamier colours such as ivory; which, right now, is one of the most popular colours of wedding gowns.Yellow undertones If your skin has yellow undertones, a traditional look will make you sparkle on your special day. White dresses will suit you, as will fabrics in a champagne shade.Dark Skin You have the most choice – almost every shade of wedding dress will complement your skin. But, if you have a yellow or olive undertone steer away from ivory dresses with a yellow tone, and try bright white or pink colours instead.
