Most girls dream of the moment they find the wedding dress they have been waiting a lifetime for, and everything else that goes along with it. The planning and the shopping for the most important dress of a woman’s life is supposed to be the most enjoyable and memorable, but sometimes it can be overcome by stress and worry. To ensure you are prepared for your bridal gown shopping experience, make sure you ask your bridal consultant the following:

Talk to your consultant about the fit and your body.

Finding out what style is best for your body type is one of the most important questions you should ask. An experienced consultant will give you unbiased and objective advice about what kind of dress will make you look your best. Don’t be afraid to try on a variety of different styles, even if it’s not what you have always pictured. Never judge a dress based on what it looks like on the hanger, or in the magazines; always choose the dress that makes you feel the most beautiful and confident.

Ask about the bustle

Bustles come in a variety of shapes and styles, so a consultant will be able to tell you which bustles are appropriate for each style of gown; don’t be afraid to ask. The bustle may seem like an afterthought, but you will be wearing it for the majority of the reception so make sure to find the perfect one for your dress.

Discuss accessories

Remember to not leave your appointment without discussing and/or trying on veils and accessories. Find something that will complement and enhance your look, and that you feel confident wearing.

Talk about current trends

Fads tend to come and go pretty quickly, so it’s important to discuss what trends are in style for the season. Your consultant can steer you in a certain direction depending on whether you want a dress that’s on trend, or a more classic gown.

Ask about your wedding venue and date

Make sure you inform your consultant of all the small details so that they know what sort of gown will suit your big day. A good consultant will quickly get a feel for your personality, but let them know if you’re likely to be dancing the night away to your favourite heavy metal band or gently waltzing around the dance floor. If your reception is going to be outside and involve an inter-family rounders match, make sure you tell the consultant. These may be extreme examples, but if you are going to be comfortable, and look your best until your prince charming whisks you to your honeymoon suite, you need to find the dress that ticks every box.
