Choosing the perfect wedding venue is one of the most important decisions you will make during the wedding planning process, and can sometimes be more difficult than you expected. Ensuring it ticks every box on both you and your other half’s wish-list,  is in a good location, and holds all of your guests are just some contributing factors. Travelling many miles, and spending a huge amount of time checking out potential venues can be quite stressful, and that’s why we have put forward some top tips to help guide your decision.

Communication is key

Talk with your other half about the sort of wedding you would like, but make sure you are ready to compromise if you have different ideas. Are you hoping for a summer wedding in a marquee, or a relaxed, contemporary barn wedding venue?

Civil ceremony or church wedding?

Deciding what type of ceremony you would like will highlight the area in which you should look for a wedding venue, as your wedding reception venue should ideally be within 20-25 minutes radius of the church.

Deciding on a budget early on will help you to shortlist potential venues, but remember to also include catering and alcohol in this as they normally take up a large chunk of wedding budgets.

What’s best for guests?

Don’t forget about those guests travelling to your wedding, choose a venue that has accommodation or has reasonably priced rooms nearby to save them money, or consider somewhere that is near to where the majority of your guests live.

Wedding guest numbers

Have a rough idea of this before you start looking at venues, or be prepared to alter your guest list if your perfect venue can’t hold your original guest numbers.

Your wedding date

If you have set a date in stone for your wedding, then check the availability of that date before you visit. However, if you are flexible about the day of the week, month or season of your wedding, you’ll have a much wider choice of venues.
